The 2024 Dayton Hamvention brought some exciting scanner news. It’s been a while since we’ve seen a big announcement like this, not since the Uniden Bearcat SDS100 in 2018. Rich Carlson, the former Scanner Guys co-host who is now retired, and I got to showcase Uniden’s newest scanner to the convention goers.

The Dayton Hamvention, known as one of the biggest amateur radio conventions globally, has a rich history dating back to its first event in 1952 at the Dayton Biltmore Hotel. After being held at the Hara Arena for many years, the convention found a new home at the Greene County Fairgrounds in Xenia, Ohio following the arena’s closure in 2016. Every third weekend of May, more than 30,000 individuals gather in southwestern Ohio to explore the newest technology and engage in buying/trading amateur radio equipment.

Scanner Master unveiled the RH-200, a remote head, as their latest product. This new device meets the long-standing need for a remote head and works with most current Uniden scanner models. The RH-200 comes with a user-friendly touchscreen and a colorful display. It also has a built-in speaker. The RH-200 is scheduled to be released in the Fall of 2024, providing scanner enthusiasts with an advanced solution to enhance their scanning setup. Keep an eye out for more updates as the release date gets closer!

Many remember the Uniden RH-96 remote head that was manufactured by Uniden in 2007. This remote head had the same form factor as the Uniden Base/Mobile without the depth of the scanner. Uniden discontinued the RH-96 due to low sales. Scanner Master requested a second production run in 2011-2012 until Uniden depleted its inventory for parts to make this product.
