About the host
Jonathan got his first scanner as a gift from his dad in the late 1980s. He programmed it for his local town’s police and fire department, and he’s been hooked ever since. Jonathan often brought his scanner along with him for railfanning trips with his dad, which he continues to this day. Jonathan has always been interested in communications, from two-way radios to DXing.
Years later, he pursued a degree in radio and television broadcasting. Following graduation, his first job, he used police scanners as a primary tool for gathering data. This included working as a traffic information manager and transit media liaison for many years in Boston, Massachusetts.
Pursuing his passion for radio, Jonathan then moved into a producer role for Ron Della Chiesa Music America and Strictly Sinatra on Boston’s WPLM 99.1. During his time as an on-air personality, he refreshed the show’s imaging elements for both shows.
A few years later, Jonathan became a full-time morning show producer at WCTK 98.1 in Providence, Rhode Island. Along with his role as a producer, he also took on the responsibilities of station webmaster and assisted the station through a major website upgrade.
In 2008, Jonathan joined the Scanner Master team as a customer service representative. Not too long after, he took over the company’s online digital content and assisted with product development. He served as the lead content creator for the company’s YouTube channel.
As of 2019, Jonathan serves as a digital marketing consultant for Scanner Master, handling social media and email marketing.
Jonathan currently fulfills the roles of show creator, brand developer, and host for The Scanner Guys. The show is backed by its audience through YouTube ad revenue and a merchandise store.
Jonathan has taken his childhood love of trains and created an online blog, trainaficionado.com. Whenever he has free time, you can see him trackside with a scanner in one hand and a camera in the other.
